Operative Hysteroscopy (Complex-Fibroid)

Operative hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive gynecological procedure in which an endoscopic optical lens is inserted through the cervix into the endometrial cavity to direct treatment of various types of intrauterine pathology. This device is later modified to accommodate gynecological applications. The development of new hysteroscopic instruments, fiber optics, and digital video equipment has continued to provide more varied, efficacious, and less invasive procedures. This is generally done for an outpatient, and recovery typically requires a day or two until most normal activity can be resumed. The hysteroscopic removal of fibroids is appropriate is one of the most important factors in obtaining good results.  Most of submucous fibroids are partially in the wall of the uterus. The illustration above shows a fibroid that is about 2/3 in the cavity and 1/3 in the wall. During the process of resecting the uterus often contracts, squeezing out the portion that is on the wall, and allowing complete removal.
