Laparoscopic Myomectomy

Laparoscopic myomectomy can also be performed by keyhole approach or by the open abdominal approach. It offers many advantages compared to open abdominal surgery like enhanced recovery, Short hospital stay, cosmetically improved scar, Reduced scarring from the procedure and comparable pregnancy rates. Laparoscopic myomectomy is an advanced laparoscopic procedure.  The clinical test is required along with an ultrasound scan. This scan will delineate the number, size and location of fibroids. 3 or 4 small incisions are made in the abdomen depending on the uterine size and other circumstances. An incision is made within the umbilicus. The pressure of gas used during laparoscopy reduces the amount of bleeding. Uterine fibroids have lot of blood supply therefore prone to bleeding during removal. The patient will stay in the hospital for 24-48 hours. The patient may have light vaginal bleeding and some shoulder pain. The patient will feel tired but will be able to eat and drink normally, walk around and go to the toilet. The patient will be discharged from the hospital after 24-48 hours.
